Maharashtra Women’s Commission on Wednesday summoned Bollywood superstar Salman Khan to be present before it on June 29 for his remark that he felt “like a raped woman’ during the shoot of his upcoming film Sultan. The notice in this regards has been issued to Salman terming the comment by the actor as an insult to women.

“We have issued the notice to Salman Khan asking him to remain present before the Commission on June 29. The comment made by him was insulting to women. For an actor who has a fan following of lakhs of people, it is not good to say something like this. He should behave responsibly,” said state Women’s Commission chief Vijaya Rahatkar.

The Commission expects Salman or his lawyer to appear for the hearing and reply to the notice. The Commission is a quasi-judicial body that can conduct hearing and pass orders. Salman, in a recent interview, said that he “felt like a raped woman” when shooting for a fight scene in Sultan, which centres on the sport of wrestling. The comment has drawn flak from all sections of the society, with the National Commission for Women demanding an apology for the same within seven days.

Salim Khan, Salman’s father and well-known film writer, apologised on behalf of his son on Twitter.
