Maharashtra will probe allegations by MARD
The state government will make an inquiry into the allegations levelled against Dr T.P. Lahane, dean of JJ Group of Hospitals, that he harassed resident doctors.

The state government will make an inquiry into the allegations levelled against Dr T.P. Lahane, dean of JJ Group of Hospitals, that he harassed resident doctors. It has also asked the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) to call off an indefinite strike at the hospital.
The MARD had decided to go on an indefinite strike at JJ Hospital from Sunday alleging that hospital doctors are subjected to incessant mental harassment at the hands of Dr Lahane.
The issue was raised by the leader of opposition Dhananjay Munde in the state Legislative Council on Tuesday. “There is a conspiracy behind the MARD strike, as some people are trying to create trouble for Dr Lahane. Ever since he has taken over as dean, the number of patients visiting the JJ Hospital has increased manifold. The number of surgeries has also increased. The hospital has jumped to fifth position in the list of country’s public hospitals from 19th position,” he said. Council’s deputy chairman Vasant Davkhare said patients are suffering lot of inconvenience owing to strike. The state government should ask doctors to withdraw the strike and resume the work, he said.
Minister of medical education Vinod Tawde said, “Since the resident doctors of JJ Hospital have made allegations, it is the duty of the state government to probe them. We will hold an inquiry into the allegations levelled against Dr Lahane. We will also hold discussion with MARD in this matter.”
The MARD has alleged that apart from harassment of resident doctors, they were also not given an opportunity to conduct surgery.
