Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will be on a week-long tour to the US starting Monday. While he is there, he will hold meetings with the leadership of New York and New Jersey to promote Maharashtra as an attractive investment destination. He will also meet the CEOs of companies, including Google and Microsoft.

He will be back from the tour being called “Mumbai meets Manhattan” on July 7. An official from the CMO said that during the CM’s day-long visit on June 29, he was expected to meet the governor of New Jersey Chris Christie as well as other senior political leaders from New York city and neighbouring Connecticut.“Mr Fadnavis will hold meetings with the states’ leadership and promote Maharashtra as an attractive investment destination not only among Indian businessmen but to a larger American audience,” he said.

The CM has a packed schedule and will meet CEOs of companies from sectors identified as crucial for investment by the state government.

“It is expected that he will meet CEOs of Google and Microsoft. The schedule also includes some site visits of manufacturing giants like Boeing,” the official added. The CM will meet the CEO of Boeing so as to boost investment in the Mihan project in Nagpur.

The state government is working with Microsoft on a project to grant citizens a digital identity, which will merge with other identities like driving licenses and passports. People will also be given access to an Aadhaar-linked online repository, which will store all-important certificates and will be used while applying for jobs and services.

Microsoft will set up two major data centres in Mumbai and Pune, with the largest capacity in Asia. One such centre has also been planned in Chennai and the three facilities together will cost around '2,100 crore. The final tie-up is expected during the CM’s US visit.
