Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved the financial budget for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) of Rs 6,647.67 crore for 2016-17.

The biggest slice of the pie has been given to two projects — the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro line and the Sewri-Nhava Seva bridge also known as the Trans-Harbour link that connects Navi Mumbai to Thane, which have been given a boost of Rs 1,000 crore.

The 33.5-km Metro line has been under a lot of fire because of the displacement of residents of Girgaon. Meanwhile, the Trans-Harbour link has been given a push to provide a direct connect between the two growing suburbs.

The second biggest allocation saw an allocation of with Rs 500 crore each for Dahisar-DN Nagar and the Andheri (E)-Dahisar (E) Metros. The first project has recently seen the signing of an agreement between the MMRDA and the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), which will be constructing the line and tenders for the latter line was floated as recently as three months ago by the MMRDA.

Mr Fadnavis has also given importance to the upcoming Monorail projects in the city. The Wadala to Sant Ghadke Maharaj (Jacob circle) second phase of the project has been allotted Rs 341 crore.

A sizable allocation of Rs 171 crore was set aside for 25 hybrid buses, which will ply from Bandra-Kurla-Complex to Bandra, Kurla and Sion railway stations.

Another important connect will be seen via two highways that will connect Cheddha Nagar to the Western Express Highway as well increasing the road network in Santa Cruz-Chembur-CST-Kurla-Vakola and a Bandra-Kurla connect to the WEH.
