The naib tehsildar of Jawhar taluka in the Palghar district fired a round in his revolver in anger near a housing society on Mahim Road, following an argument with a youth. No one was injured in the incident, but the naib tehsildar, identified as Chandrakant Pawar, was taken into police custody.

The incident took place around 8 pm on Friday near the Mahavir Nagar Society on Mahim Road. Pawar had gone to the locality where the youth stayed to talk to him about a family matter.

According to police sources, Pawar asked the youth, who was in his mid 20s, to marry his daughter, but the young man had expressed his unwillingness.

A fight then broke out between the two on the topic and a livid Pawar then pulled out his revolver and fired a round on the ground. After the firing, Pawar kept his revolver back in his vehicle. However, alerted by the sound of the gun, several locals gathered around the area. The police was then informed and Pawar was detained.

Police officials said the youth was in a relationship with Pawar’s daughter for sometime. Later, when she asked the youth to marry her, he refused. This triggered tensions between Pawar and the youth.

According to police sources, Pawar has been booked under Section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code. The revolver has been seized by the police. Further investigation is also on and officials are probing business rivalry as a reason too.
