In-laws of 32-year-old woman booked in dowry case

A 32-year-old MBA graduate has registered a complaint against her in-laws for allegedly harassing her for dowry.

A 32-year-old MBA graduate has registered a complaint against her in-laws for allegedly harassing her for dowry. According to the complainant, her in-laws had earlier taken Rs 27 lakh from her family and were asking for more money. The Mulund Navghar police registered a case on Monday morning against her in-laws.

A source from Navghar police said, “A 32-year-old lady Dipti Shah married Himanshu, resident of Mulund (east), three years back. During her marriage she has given her in-laws gold jewellery worth Rs 17 lakh and later when they asked for money her family has given Rs 10 lakh more. Since the past few months they were constantly harassing Dipti to bring more money from her parents or otherwise they asked her to leave the place and live away from her husband.”

“Dipti also told the police that when she tried to open a bank account, they opposed it and asked her to give her salary to them,” a police source said.

The police has registered a case against her in-laws under section 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and Section 498A of the IPC which pertains to dowry offences.
