Juhi meets Banthia over radiation issue
Actor-turned-social activist and the face of the anti-mobile tower campaign in the city, Juhi Chawla met state health secretary Dr Jayant Kumar Banthia on Monday. The actress met the chief secretary for more definite regulations and guidelines for installation of mobile towers in the city, especially on rooftops in housing societies and school buildings. Principal secretary R.A. Rajeev and principal secretary, urban development Manukumar Srivastava, urban development also participated in the meeting. In the meeting, Ms Chawla indicated that the municipal corporation should not just adopt stricter guidelines for installation of mobile towers, but also ensure that the emission of radiation levels is set at further lower levels. It was unanimously decided that a committee comprising experts from Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and various people’s representatives groups will be formed by the end of October, which will come together to deliberate and find a workable and amicable solution.
