JJ Hospital’s resident doctors to mass bunk today
Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (Mard) members of JJ Hospital have declared a mass bunk today demanding immediate transfer of the dean of the hospital Dr T.P. Lahane and head of the department of ophthalmology, Dr R. Parikh.
“Our colleagues in the department ophthalmology have been facing a tortuous work environment and mental harassment at the hand of the department head Dr R. Parikh and the dean Dr T.P. Lahane. Resident doctors are not being imparted any knowledge or surgical training according to MCI guidelines,” stated Mard.
It further stated, “In spite of long working hours and performing their duties as per instructions, the resident doctors are repeatedly insulted and harassed with unprovoked personal comments about them and their families.”
The resident doctors from Mard claimed that the surgical achievement of Dr Lahane and Dr Parikh have been achieved at the cost of the doctors’ training. “They do not train us properly as they conduct all the surgeries.
They have trampled the aspirations of the post-graduation students in the department,” said a post-graduation student from the department, requesting not to be named.
Dr Lahane has recently stated that the students who have approached Shaina NC, executive member of BJP complaining against the department, did so to hide their own misdeeds. “Two days ago, due to a wrong dose, a patient got a cardiac attack. He was then shifted to ICU and may also need a bypass surgery. To hide this error, they are now putting the blame on the department. These are false allegations,” said Dr Lahane.
However, contradicting the statement, Mard said, “The recent events such as blaming resident doctors for the seniors’ operative complications have pushed things too far.”
Commenting on the matter, Dr Sagar Mundada, president of central Mard said, “From 10 am onwards on Sunday, we will be going on a mass bunk until our demands are met with.”
