A 19-year-old girl was attacked with a knife by a 34-year-old man who had a one-sided love for her in Juhu area of Vile Parle (west) on Sunday morning. The man cut both wrists of the girl with a knife and tried to flee the spot, but alert citizens caught him. He has been handed over to the Juhu police.
According to the Juhu police, the incident took place at 8.20 am on VM Road near Puranmal Hotel in Juhu area. The accused, identified as Bachu Ali, and the victim live in the same neighbourhood in Nehru nagar locality of Juhu. Ali is married but his wife has separated from him.
“Ali had developed feelings for the girl over a period of time and had recently proposed to her. The girl did not take any interest in him, which enraged him. The girl informed us that she did not know the accused,” said an officer from Juhu police station.
The attack was preplanned. Ali was waiting on the road armed with the knife and he blocked the victim’s way and took up an argument with her. He then pulled out the knife and cut both her wrists. The victim’s screams alerted passersby who rushed to her rescue. The victim has been admitted to Cooper Hospital. The victim has suffered deep cuts, but she is said to be out of danger. The Juhu police has registered a case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code. Ali has been arrested and has confessed to his crime.
