The Jet Airways Union, along with nearly 150 employees, took out a morcha from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport to the Jet Airways office in Sahar on Thursday, demanding fulfilment of their demands. The association alleged that the management has suspended 20 female employees in the last three days as it is mulling to reduce its staff by 250. However, they ended their protest after being assured that their grievances would be addressed in a week. They have threatened to strike if their demands are not fulfilled.

The protestors began the morcha at 3 pm and reached Jet Airways office around 6 pm. As the police deployed at the gate did not let the protestors to enter the office building, they forced they way inside and began protesting. Following this, the airline authority sent two senior officials, Chief Peoples’ Operations officer Rahul Taneja and legal advisor Narayan Hariharan, to pacify the protestors. Although the employees ended their agitation after assurances, they threatened to go on a strike in case the grievances were not sorted out.

The employees also alleged that the airline took no action on a few harassment-related complaints filed by the women staff.

A spokesperson of All India Jet Airways Officers and Staff Association, seeking anonymity, said, “The suspension of the 20 employees had been revoked for the time being. The management had informed us that they wanted to reduce the manpower by 200. The female employees were forced to do extra shifts due to shortage of staff.”
