Javed Akhtar’s fiery speech at the Rajya Sabha was met with much applause in the house and outside of it, with Bollywood actors taking to Twitter to laud Mr. Akhtar’s words. The lyricist-turned-Rajya Sabha member in his retirement speech commented on polarising politics in the country and without directly naming MP Asaddudin Owaisi, criticised his stand on not wanting to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.
Lata Mangeshkar made a rare comment on the micro blogging site with a long message, “Namaskar. Kal Javed Akhtar sahab ne sansad mein sacche mann se jo baatein kahi aur jis dhang se kahi wo dil ko chu gayi. Humari film industry ka sar Himalaya ki choti tak uncha hua. Main unko bahut badhaai deti hun aur shukriya adaa karti hun. Ishwar unko khush rakhe.”
Actor Rishi Kapoor tweeted, “Wonderful Javed Akhtar Sahab! Agree with you. Hope people listen to your words and follow.”
Also praising the veteran was Varun Dhawan saying, “Brilliant speech by javed Akthar saab. Inspired 2016”.
