The now-shrouded in controversy Indian Premier League (IPL) will receive topmost security from Mumbai police, with the latter prepping personnel for deployment at the inauguration ceremony on Friday and the first match to be held on April 9. “We have about 800 police personnel deployed at the match venue, Wankhede Stadium. We also have Quick Response Teams and bomb squads keeping vigil at the grounds,” said DCP Zone 1, Manoj Sharma.

The stadium is expected to be packed to capacity for the first match of IPL between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Super Giants. “We will have security on the grounds and at all access gates for ticket holders and entry gates for VIPs,” said a senior officer in the police department.

Keeping in mind heavy traffic movement during the ceremony and the matches, traffic police has also announced restrictions in south Mumbai. These restrictions will be in place for all IPL matches to be held in the city. “Most roads will be converted to one-ways and parking will be prohibited for vehicles, except emergency vehicles, during match hours on April 9. Certain roads will be made no-entry zones except for residents and those who have offices in the area,-" said Anil Kumbhare, DCP, Mumbai Traffic Police.

He said the D Road would be a one-way for vehicles from its junction with N.S. Road (Marine Drive) to its junction of E and C Road. C Road will be a one-way for vehicles from its junction with E Road to its junction with N.S. Road (Marine Drive). E Road will be a one-way for vehicles from its junction of D Road to its junction of C Road.
