Indrani Mukerjea’s lawyer on Thursday completed his arguments for her in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case. She has filed bail application on medical grounds and her lawyer told the court that the applicant is so unwell that she could even die if not given proper medical treatment and for that she should be granted bail.
Senior counsel Mahesh Jetmalani has claimed in the bail application that Indrani’s health is deteriorating and she has lost around 18 kg in the past four months. To prove the seriousness of her medical condition, the lawyer has also produced around 50 pages of her medical records.
According to the bail application, Indrani is suffering from ‘chronic small vessels ischemic changes’, as a result of which the supply of oxygen to her brain may get interrupted anytime, which may result in brain stroke and is “life threatening”.
The plea, which was filed in February, also claimed that she faints at times and thus needs constant monitoring, care and a stress-free environment. It also mentioned that it takes around 45 to 60 minutes to reach the nearest hospital from Byculla women’s prison, where Indrani is kept. Her bail application has also stated that once when she had fallen unconscious around 5 am, the doctor available at the jail examined her only around 11.45 am. Also, after examination, it took about an hour for the authorities to shift her to the hospital.
Indrani’s 24-year-old daughter from an earlier relationship, Sheena, was allegedly strangled in a car and then her body was burnt and dumped in a forest in Raigad, about 84 km from the city.
Indrani’s husband Peter Mukerjea’s bail application was rejected by the court while her former driver Shyamwar Rai has not filed for bail. Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna has also filed bail application through advocate Shreyansh Mithare. “We would be heard (for Khanna’s bail) after CBI files reply on her (Indrani’s) bail application on Friday,” said advocate Mithare.
