High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, Syed Muazzem Ali, who arrived in Mumbai on Friday to take part in the ‘Make In India’ Week, said that the present state of Bangladesh-India relations are the ‘best ever’ in the country’s history.
Mr Ali met Maharashtra governor C. Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. During the meeting, he said the current relationship between Bangladesh and India are the ‘best ever’. Mentioning that both the nations had shared poverty for too long, he said it was time the countries shared their success as well. Deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh Samina Naz accompanied him.
Stating that Bangladesh is no longer a ‘basket case’, Mr Ali said the country had scripted success stories in agricultural production and textile. The high commissioner told the governor that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh had adopted ‘zero-tolerance’ policy towards terrorism.
Regarding the ‘Make In India Week’ programme, the high commissioner said, “Bangladesh had tremendous advantage in ship building, but the country lacked landmass. Cooperation from India in this sector could prove to be mutually beneficial.”
Mentioning that Maharashtra is a leader in trade and industry, the high commissioner expressed the need to strengthen cooperation between Maharashtra and Bangladesh in these areas.
Welcoming the high commissioner to Maharashtra, the governor said, “Maharashtra would extend all cooperation to the country in higher and technical education” if there was a proposal in this regard.
