‘Include kids below 6 also under RTE’
Shikshak Parishad, a teacher’s organization, has demanded that children below the age of 6 years should also be included in the RTE Act as pre-primary education is also a right of children. The organisation has given a list of 22 demands to the state education ministry and has asked it to consider them during the education conference to be held in November.
Commenting on the demands, Anil Bornare, Mumbai north president SP said that the government had sought suggestions and opinions of teachers, principals and stake holders before conducting the conference on reforms in education that were required to be implemented to make education in Maharashtra the best in the country.
“There are some important issues that need the immediate attention of the government and inclusion of the same in the new education policy would go a long way in resolving the problems being faced at the elementary, primary and secondary level,” said Bornare. Pointing to the fact that some of the suggestions were long-pending demands, Bornare said that the initiative by the education minister to invite recommendations was a positive move and would bode well for the future of education in the state.
