The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) has released a list of nine companies that it had blacklisted after they failed to fulfil their commitments for hiring students selected by them during campus placement rounds.

According to IIT-B’s placement cell, the list comprises some second- and third-tier companies. Around six of these companies had revoked their offer after recruiting students during campus placement, while two companies had delayed the joining date of the students they had recruited. The remaining recruiter had come for the placement representing a certain company, but hired students for a different start-up.

The institute conducts campus placements for its students every year, wherein nearly 1,600 students are provided jobs in tier-I companies in the first phase. The placement rounds are conducted under the guidance of a professor.

When asked about what action would be initiated against the blacklisted companies, an IIT-B spokesperson said that the companies had been barred from participating in the placement process for a year. Only if they were able to improve their track record would they be allowed to participate in the placements next year. The companies that revoked their offer were Johnson Electric, China, Portea Medical, Peppertap, Cashcare Technologies and GPSK, while LeGarde Burnett Group had turned out to be a fake firm. IndusInsight and LexInnova were blacklisted for delayed joining.
