Husnain Warerkar took good care of family: Neighbours

Neighbours of the Warerkar family have expressed shock and disbelief at Husnain Warerkar’s crime.

Neighbours of the Warerkar family have expressed shock and disbelief at Husnain Warerkar’s crime. According to them, Husnain was a cheerful and smart man who showed absolutely no signs of any psychological disorder.

According to the locals of Kasar Vadavli, Husnain was a very down-to-earth and work-oriented man. A senior citizen Zubaida remembers him as a religious man who offered namaz every day for five times and was a true Allah ka banda (good man). “He was a loyal husband and never had a bad word for anyone.

He was cheerful and obedient. Being the eldest son of the Warerkar couple, he used to take very good care of them. In fact during the wedding of his sisters, he financially supported his family. He used to love his family very much,” said Ms Zubaida.

Mohammad Bilal, uncle of Husnain, said his nephew had graduated from NKT College in Thane area, and was working as an income tax and accounting consultant in a firm at Navi Mumbai. “The Warerkar family has been staying in the area for decades and his father was a trustee at a dargah in Anand Nagar area. Husnain had married the daughter of his maternal uncle and loved her very much,” said Mr Bilal.

A neighbour Gazala Saki said that the family was reserved yet social. Another neighbour Zarina Sheikh said the family was rich, content, and it looked like some evil spirit had taken over Husnain.

Neighbours said that earlier in the day Husnain had gone to the house of his sisters in Navi Mumbai to bring them back for a get-together. On Saturday evening he had told the shopkeeper that his sisters were home and they were having a biryani party.

Later around 11.30 in the night some neighbours had seen him sharpening a knife and when one of the neighbour inquired about the reason behind it he skirted the question. Later, at about 12.30 am he was seen by the neighbours roaming on the terrace with his children singing songs to them in an attempt to put them to sleep.

Later around 1.30 am, a few neighbors heard the voice of Asgari, mother of Husnain, begging to leave her and not to kill any one. Locals said they thought they had imagined it but later around 2 am they heard Subina’s voice shouting for help and saying her brother had killed her family. The neighbours then gathered only to find that the door was locked and so they broke one window and took Subina out, who was bleeding from her slit throat.

Neighbours said Zabin, wife of Husnain was lying naked while others had their clothes on. The locals said there was no dispute over money in the family.
