The Thane police has arrested two family members of a woman who was nine months pregnant and who, along with her husband, was found stabbed to death in the room the couple were staying in at Daighar village in Thane.
The Asian Age had reported how Vijay Shankar Yadav (30) and his wife, Sufiya Abrar Mansoori alias Priya Vijay Shankar Yadav (22), both from Uttar Pradesh, were found murdered in their room last Thursday, in what the police suspected to be a case of honour killing.
Thane police officers said that the accused, Shafique Mansoori (28), Sufiya aka Priya’s brother and a resident of Uttar Pradesh, allegedly murdered his pregnant sister and her husband.
Earlier, upon interrogation, the couple’s neighbours told the police about a person who looked like Shafique and who stayed over at the couple’s place after Eid. Acting on the tip-off, a team was sent to Uttar Pradesh to find the accused. Taking the help of the local police, the Thane police traced and arrested Shafique and brought him to Thane on Sunday night.
A policeman close to the investigation said, “During interrogation, Shafique confessed that he had murdered his friend and sister. He is Priya’s cousin brother and Vijay’s best friend as well. Shafique used to take Vijay to his house so often that Vijay began chatting with Priya and they fell in love. Later, when the family came to know about their relationship and decided to get Priya married elsewhere, Priya decided to run away from the village. In 2015, Priya and Vijay fled from Uttar Pradesh. Thereafter, Shafique’s family members and other villagers called him names for letting his best friend get away with such an extreme step.”
DCP zone 1, Thane, Abhishek Trimukhe, said, “Shafique was fed up of the way everyone was treating him and decided to take revenge against his sister and best friend. He contacted Vijay a few months ago and started keeping in touch with the couple again. After Eid, he visited the two of them in Thane. After dinner on a certain day, he decided to stay over at their place. Then, when the couple was in deep sleep, Shafique first slit Vijay’s throat and then killed his sister. He then locked the door of the room and fled from the place, thinking that no one would come to know about his crime.”
The Asian Age had reported how Priya had been punched in the stomach before being stabbed two to three times, forcing her baby’s legs to slip out of her body. Even after that, the accused had hit the infant’s legs till it died of suffocation inside Priya’s womb.
