Hijack threat call made to Air India
A call threatening to hijack an Air India flight was made to the AI call center at Thane on Friday, which security agencies have deemed the threat a ‘non-specific call’ as there was no mention of flight number, route, or timing of the flight. However, further investigation into the issue is on.
According to sources from the Mumbai International Airport Limited, the call came at 10:30 pm and the caller said, “Main ISI atankawadi sanghatna se bol raha hoon aur humara plan 28 November ko Air India flight ko hijack karana hain. (I’m calling from the ISI terror group and our plan is to hijack an Air India flight on November 28).”
All airports in the country are on high alert since the Paris terror attacks.
Confirming the incident, a senior official from the Airport security agency said, “When the Thane-based call center of Air India informed the Mumbai Airport authorities they immediately intimated us, after which the message was passed to all the security handling agencies including central industrial security Force (CISF) and private security agencies at both the terminals.
He further added, “After the same, as per the Standard Operating Procedure, a Bomb Threat Committee was formed and the call was declared a ‘non-specific’ call as there was no mention of flight number, route, day, date or timing.”
A senior officer from the CISF told The Asian Age that the Truecaller app had shown that the threat call was from Madhya Pradesh. But the official added no conclusion had been drawn in the issue and further inquiry is on.
An FIR has been filed at the Sri Nagar police station in connection with the case as the place where the call center is located falls under the jurisdiction of this police station.
