Hema Upadhyay murder case: Custody of Chintan, others extended
Judicial custody of all the accused in the double murder case of artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambani has been extended till March 18.
On Saturday artist Chintan Upadhyay, estranged husband of Hema along with other accused, Pradeep Rajbhar, Vijay Rajbhar and Shivkumar Rajbhar alias Sadhu were produced in Borivali metropolitan magistrate court through video conferencing while one accused who has been deemed to be a minor was sent to juvenile court.
During the hearing Chintan informed the court that his back problem was getting worse day by day. Chintan had informed the court about his back problem on February 25 on the last hearing also and court had directed, jail authorities to take him to JJ hospital for a
medical and submit a reply in eight days. On Saturday Chintan informed the court that he was taken to JJ hospital on Friday for a medical, while jail authorities have not submitted their report yet.
According to jail authorities, Chintan has had back trouble for a long time and he is getting regular medication and pain-killers from the prison doctor. While Chintan is asking for regular and proper medical treatment, some of his friends said that just one day prior to the murders he had visited a doctor in Delhi for a CT scan and MRI as the problem had worsened and he was in need of medical assistance.
Earlier on January 22, he had approached the Bombay high court asking for pillow, bed sheet and blanket, which was granted. On February 29 his bail application was rejected by the Dindoshi sessions court.
Chintan was arrested on December 22, 2015 by the Kandivali police for his role in the murder of his wife. However, in the almost two and a half months since his arrest, the police is yet to get any concrete evidence against him.
