Social activist Anna Hazare has expressed his displeasure about his former disciple and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s rule after the latter has faced flak from all sections. Mr Hazare said that he was saddened to see that some of Mr Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) colleagues had gone to jail and some had indulged in fraud. AAP leaders, however, said that they were ready to accept any suggestion from Mr Hazare on any issue, adding that immediate action was taken after certain questions were raised about a few of their leaders.

“Arvind has disappointed me. I thought that his party would win the people’s confidence. But I am saddened by the allegations made against the AAP leaders,” Mr Hazare said while speaking to the media at Ralegan Siddhi.

He added: “Arvind has been with me for many years. I was very hopeful about him. I was hoping that he would set a different example for politics in India and also that he would give a different direction to the nation.”

Mr Hazare also said: “But I am very saddened to see what his colleagues are doing. Some are going to jail, some are indulging in fraud.”

The social activist’s comments came after the recent expulsion of former AAP minister Sandeep Kumar in connection with a sex scandal. A court remanded Kumar (36) — who was sacked as a minister by the Delhi government in the wake of the scandal — to three days of police custody on Tuesday.

AAP’s co-in-charge for Maharashtra, Ashutosh Sengar, said that the party takes immediate action if any wrongdoing is pointed out against any of its leaders.

“We have been very careful in selecting our candidates and have also withdrawn nominations if any problem with the candidate is found. In the case of Asim Khan and Sandeep Kumar, the party took the first action. We respect Anna Hazare and welcome his suggestions on any issue,” Mr Sengar said.

Anna speaks after sex scandal In the wake of a sex scandal involving AAP leader Sandeep Kumar, social activist Anna Hazare has said that he is saddened to see that some of the party’s leaders had gone to jail, while some were indulging in fraudulent activities. Mr Hazare said he had told Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal: “You are going to roam the world after launching your party. You will hold rallies in the country for the same, but how will you find out whether the people who join your party have a good character or not He did not have any answer for that. I can understand why today.”
