Self-styled hacker Manish Bhangale, who claims to have accessed the call record details of underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim and alleged that they reflected revenue minister Eknath Khadse’s number, has said that his email account is being hacked into.

When contacted, Mr Bhangale said his account had been attacked early this week. “One of the email ids which I use for professional purposes was being hacked. The hackers were trying to enter the mail and access the data,” Mr Bhangale said.

He added that his advanced security features disabled their attacks.

”I get instant alerts and notifications any time somebody attempts to log into my account. I also have security features installed, which block such people if they are not authenticated by me. Because of this their attempts failed,” he said. The email account the hackers were trying to access was the same one that Mr Bhangale had used to access call records of Dawood’s landlines in his Karachi house.

But on Thursday night, the hackers were successful in hacking into the account and accessed two mails. “They managed to reach my account and also went through some mails. They deleted two mails related to the Dawood case but these were inconsequential mails,” he said. The mails in questions were addressed to Pakistan Telecommunications Limited (PTCL) wherein he had enquired about the status of the information that he had asked PTCL to provide.

“I had used the technique of social engineering where you could say I pretended to be Dawood’s wife Mehjabeen and asked them to provide me certain data about the landline numbers. The deleted mails were just enquiry mails,” he said. He further added he had managed to recover these mails.

Mr Bhangale said he is trying to find out the origin of the attack. “I am working on trying to find where the attacks originated from. Till they were attempts, it was fine but now that they’ve reached into my mail, I have to start find the origin and also build better security for my account,” he said.
