Gujarat CM highlights state’s achievements

Neighbouring states Maharashtra and Gujarat were seen competing with each other at a Make In India Week event to grab maximum investment in various sectors. Just a day after the Maharashtra government boasted of bagging investments worth more than Rs 6 lakh crore in various sectors, on Tuesday Gujarat chief Minister Anandiben Patel highlighted achievements of the state.

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had a meeting with the US-India Business Council and US Chamber of Business and Commerce on Wednesday during the on-going Make In India Week. He spoke about the need to have a smooth tendering process on the lines of the Swiss system. He also spoke about the upcoming projects in the state.

“Monsanto will be setting up a seed plant in Deulgaon Raja at the Buldana district in Vidarbha. PepsiCo will be setting up three more units to process Mango, Pomegranate fruits. The government had signed an MoU with PepsiCo. IBM has assured help in development of smart cities,” the CM said, on the sidelines of MIN.

He also said a few companies had volunteered to bring down road accidents in Maharashtra and had submitted their plans and designs. The CM had boasted of signing MoUs of Rs 6 lakh crore on Monday.

Terming Gujarat as the “investment gateway of India,” Ms Patel said that the state had received investment of Rs 65,000 crore in recent times. She announced a new mega project policy to invite bigger businesses in the state. She mentioned policies pertaining to the electronics, IT/ITES, textile industry, cottage industry, plastic industry, manufacturing and tourism, MSME etc that are businessmen-friendly. Other upcoming policies are aerospace and Defence, agro food processing and smart cities, she added.

“Our policies are industry-friendly and changes have been made in many existing policies for ease of doing business in Gujarat. We have formulated a few committees for the implementation of the MoUs, which I supervise,” she further added. Ms Patel said that her government is promoting the MSME sector in Gujarat as they are the backbone of economic growth. “We are setting up a park for women entrepreneurs,” she added.
