The state government is planning a Bandra Kurla Complex-like business district in Kalyan-Dombivali. It will be called ‘Growth City’. An official informed that the said facility will be developed on 250 acres of land and it will have only commercial and residential places. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken a keen interest in the project and personally directed top Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials to work on the project expeditiously.
Pravin Darade, secretary, chief minister’s office, said, “The government will develop the Growth City in partnership with local land owners, which means that they will be given a certain percentage of developed land in the city itself. They will also get additional FSI so that they do not incur any losses.”
Further explaining the government’s plan, Mr Darade said the government would develop civic infrastructure in the notified area and also demarcate land for commercial use, residential use and other utilities.
“The development will be carried out on the basis of the land reservation made by the government,” the officer said. He added that once the infrastructure is developed, private investors would come forward with projects like how the BKC was developed.
Mr Darade also said that the said business district is called Growth City as it is expected to propel overall growth in the Kalyan-Dombivali area. However, it will take several years to complete the project of Growth City, Mr Darade said.
“We have already identified the land where the project will be implemented. But lot of work still needs to be done. Physical inspection of the said land will be carried out, after which a detailed plan will be made. We will also have to hold discussions with local stake holders and explain them the benefits of the scheme,” he said.
