Government Railway Police identifies one in viral train video
A day after a two-part video of two young men, stripped and beaten with a belt inside the compartment of a running train and then on a station for stealing cell phones went viral on the social media, the Government Railway Police (GRP) tracked the incident to Vikhroli. The GRP has found that one of the persons being beaten in the video is into drugs and is an on record criminal with mobile phone theft cases and the incident happened in 2013.
The person was identified as Wasim Nazeem Khan, who came forward to file a complaint after he saw the video spread on social networking site a few days back. He is a resident of Parksite area in Vikhroli and has cases against him with the Parksite police station.
The GRP officials said, “Khan along with one more of his associate, both are thieves, were travelling from Mumbra towards CST in early hours at the time of incident. The assaulters suspected they tried to steal their phones when they actually started beating them. The incident happened between Dadar and Parel station. No one came forward to stop them but took pictures and videos of the incident.” A case under section 294 (punishment for obscene acts or words in public) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC was registered with the Dadar GRP
“After he was tracked, we recorded his statement in which he claimed that the incident took place in 2013. He was assaulted by two people. We are digging out a few more details to arrest the culprit. We need to get a proper sketch of the person who beat him along with some other important details,” said Rupali Ambure, deputy commissioner of police, GRP.
