The final decision as regards the re-introduction of (Central Board of Secondary Education), CBSE’s Class X board examinations, which was scrapped six years ago, has been kept on hold. The 64th meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) was held under the chairmanship of union human resource minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday at New Delhi.
There are approximately 63 schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Mumbai. City-based teachers and parents whose children are studying in CBSE schools feel reintroduction of class 10 exam won’t create much difference as mostly students do attend the CBSE board exams.
The decision was in regards to allowing students to skip class 10 exams if they decide to continue further schooling in the respective educational institutions. According to Dilip Sharma , head of mathematics department, Rajhans Vidyalaya, Andheri (West), “I don’t think this will create any difference. There are very few students who have chosen this option, because most of the students want to step out in the colleges of their choice so they have appeared for the board exams.”
Many parents want their children to study under pressure due to stiff competition. Nita Purandare, a teacher-cum parent said, “My daughter is studying for the boards, but she won’t study if there is no pressure. Students want to study in college atmosphere and that is one of the major attraction for kids to study hard and get admissions in the desired college.”
