Goa-based Monika Ghurde suffocated to death: Report

The post mortem report of perfume researcher Monika Ghurde has confirmed that she suffocated to death on Wednesday night.

The post mortem report of perfume researcher Monika Ghurde has confirmed that she suffocated to death on Wednesday night. The Goa police that is investigating the case revealed that sexual assault was yet to be confirmed as the results of the viscera analysis of the victim are awaited.

Sources in the Sangolda police station where the case has been registered said Ghurde might have been smothered to death using a pillow in the bedroom of her house. The source added that a team has been sent to Nagpur to investigate a lead.

A police officer from the Goa police said they have information that either the accused is in Nagpur or visited recently. “We have sent a team of officers to Nagpur to investigate a tip off we received. We will take further action based on the investigations,” said an officer from Sangolda police station. 39-year-old Ghurde who studied in Mumbai had moved to Goa, after her separation from her husband Bharath Ramamurtham, a year ago.

The source added that they are looking into all the business associates and contacts of Ghurde. “While we have not ruled out family issues, we suspect the accused was someone who knew the victim through her work,” he said.

Ghurde’s nude dead body was found on Thursday in the bedroom of her apartment at Sapana Raj Valley, an upper middle class locality of Goa. According to the police, prima facie evidence ruled out that burglary was the motive. “There was no forced entry in the house and no struggle established from the prima facie evidence. So we have ruled out burglary,” he said. He added that another problem they faced was to establish if anything was missing from the house.
