Ghar wapsi is a series of religious conversion activities, started by Sangh-affiliated organisations after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power at the Centre, to convert non-Hindus to Hinduism.
Speaking in a mega-blood donation event at Nanijdham in Ratnagiri, the RSS chief said, “Some people are forced to convert to other religions. They then forget that their roots are different. The act of introducing them to their original roots is called ghar wapsi.”
This is not the first time the sarsanghchalak has defended the campaign. Two years ago, while speaking in a Virat Hindu Sammelan at Kolkata, he had said, “We will bring back our brothers who have lost their way” and “belongings stolen by a thief”. He had also called India a “Hindu Rashtra”.
Referring to ‘ghar wapsi’, Mr Bhagwat had said: “Bhule bhatke jo bhai gaye hain, unko wapas layenge. Woh log apne aap nahin gaye, unko loot kar, lalach de kar le kar gaye Abhi chor pakda gaya hai. Mera maal chor ke paas hai. Aur yeh duniya jaanti hai. Mein apna maal wapas loonga, yeh kaunsi badi baat hai (We will bring back our brothers who have lost their way. They did not go on their own. They were taken away after being robbed and tempted. Now the thief has been caught and the world knows my belongings are with the thief. I will retrieve my belongings, so why is this fuss ”)Known for his sensational statements, Mr Bhagwat, a couple of months ago in Agra, had urged the Hindu community to bear more children. He said that there was no law that prohibits Hindus from bearing more children and asked who had stopped the community from doing so.
“Due to various social factors, the population of Hindus in the country is on the wane, whereas other religion’s followers are increasing,” the RSS chief had further said.
Slamming Mr Bhagwat’s controversial statements, NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik on Monday said, “The conversions have taken place in India due to casteism. If the RSS wants to bring these converted people back, which caste will they offer them Will they make them Brahmins or Thakurs They should come clear first on this.”
