The court has increased by one day police custody of Gajanan Patil, who had claimed to be revenue minister Eknath Khadse’s personal aide. Patil was arrested on May 14 by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
ACB officials last Friday caught Patil while he was accepting a bribe outside Mantralaya. They said they conducted a search of Patil’s Jalgaon house but did not find any information about his work nor any documents related to his financial transactions. ACP spokesperson Deepali Patil said, “We have asked for Gajanan Patil’s custody for investigation purposes as there is a lot more to investigate and we still need to get some details from him. The court has granted his custody till May 17.”
Officials said Gajanan Patil is not cooperating with investigators and they will soon conduct raids at his relatives’ places. Sources have given some secret information about him to officials and the team is working on the same. Asked to reveal the secret information, officials refused to comment.
Gajanan Patil was arrested on charges of corruption last Friday after ACB officials acted on a complaint by Dr Ramesh Jadhav, a Mumbai-based economist and former director of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management. In his complaint to ACB, Dr Jadhav alleged that when he went to visit Mr Khadse in his office, Gajanan Patil approached him and initially demanded a bribe of Rs 1 crore and a flat to settle the issue. Later, his demands escalated and he eventually demanded '30 crore from Dr Jadhav, which prompted him to approach the ACB.
