In a freak accident aboard the Mumbai local, a man fell off the train while trying to shift his bag from one shoulder to the other.

In a freak accident aboard the Mumbai local, a man fell off the train while trying to shift his bag from one shoulder to the other. Government railway officials took him to hospital immediately after the incident and his condition is said to be critical.

The victim, Rajesh Karkare (22) was travelling from Thane to Ghatkopar in a Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus-bound local train.

The incident occurred around 1.45 pm between Bhandup and Ghatkopar station when Karkare was standing at the door of the compartment. “The train was not too crowded. He tried to shift his bag from one shoulder to another when he accidentally hit a poll and lost his balance and fell off the running train,” said GRP PRO Ritesh Ahir.

“Our police officials immediately reached the spot and took him to the hospital. He has been admitted in the ICU,” Mr Ahir further added

In a similar incident, three youngsters fell off a speeding local train, in which one got killed, the second is critical, while the third fractured his leg, on the harbour line Wednesday morning.

According to the Vashi GRP, the incident occurred around 9.20 am while the speeding CST-bound local train was running between Mankhurd and Govandi railway stations.

The deceased was identified as Nilesh Jaiswal (20), the youth who is battling for his life in Sion Hospital with a grievous head injury is Fulchand Morya (18) and the third youth, who suffered a fracture, is Sumit Bobate (24).
