Four persons allegedly entered the Andhra Angadia courier services office in Kalbadevi early Monday and made off with two packages containing articles worth Rs 4 lakh.
The robbers allegedly threatened the two employees present in the office at knifepoint before appropriating the loot. The LT Marg police has registered a case against the four and started a search for the accused.
Police officials said two employees are always present in the courier service office, which is situated near Agyari lane in Kalbadevi.
Around 5.30 am, one of the employees was filling up water just outside the office room. The door was ajar and at that time, four robbers forcefully entered the office by brandishing a knife. The robbers ripped apart all the bags in which the couriers were kept and fled with two that had cash and valuables worth Rs 4 lakh.
Police Inspector Rajkumar Kothmire, crime, from the LT Marg police station said, “We have got the CCTV footage from the courier service office and the faces of the four who entered the room and threatened the employees are clearly visible. They were not wearing any scarf to hide their faces.”
“In the CCTV footage, it can be seen that the four entered the room forcefully; while one of them threatened the employees with knife, the other tried to put them out of consciousness with chloroform,” he added.
He further said, “The two other accused closed the doors and started tearing apart the bags in which the couriers were kept. They took the two couriers which contained Rs 2 lakh and another courier that contained valuables worth Rs 2 lakh. They then left hurriedly.”
According to police officials, the couriers which were taken away were sent from Hyderabad. The police is tracing the people who had sent these couriers and also searching for the accused.
“We have a doubt that they might have received a tip-off from someone about the valuable couriers as they were searching the couriers properly and checking names,” said Mr Kothmire.
The manager of the courier service Surendra Pratap Singh has registered a complaint with the LT Marg police station and given the names of few a people he suspects of committing the crime.
