A day after an FIR was registered against Box8, the food delivery service that catered the food at an event in a city college allegedly leading to 20 students falling ill, the police has identified employees of the company that prepared the food and also delivered it.

The Khar police, which is handling the investigation, said that earlier they had only named the company in the FIR but on Saturday, initial probe revealed the employees who prepared the food and those that delivered to various venues of the event.

“We enquired with the company and since the company mainly takes orders through its online mobile application, it was difficult to check who handled the order,” said a police officer.

“But since the event was a big one and the order massive, we were able to locate who handled the order,” he further added.

The officer said they had also collected samples from the food served at the event and the samples from the kitchen of the company and submitted it to the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).

“We are investigating the kitchen located in Thane, where the cooks prepared the food and packed it in packets. It was from this kitchen that the food was sent to the colleges. We have also received the samples from the college and we will be comparing them Box8to check to see what caused the children to fall sick,” said an official of the FDA.

The police, not wanting to identify the employees of Box8, said their role was being probed.

The FIR registered has booked the company under Sections 273 (sale of noxious food or drink), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.
