Flight makes emergency landing at city airport

A Bangkok Airways flight with 83 passengers and eight crew members on board made an emergency landing at the Mumbai city airport around 12.27 am, on Thursday.

According to airport sources, flight PG 733 took off from Bangkok around 9.15 pm on Wednesday and it was supposed to land here on Thursday around 12.15 am. However, the aircraft experienced hydraulic failure, mid air and asked for a prior landing facility at the Mumbai airport from the air traffic control (ATC) officer.

The aircraft landed safely and was towed away. Later it was taken to the hanger for maintenance. Meanwhile, as the aircraft was being towed, the primary runway was forced to shut down its operations and flying was shifted to secondary runway for almost 20 minutes, airport sources said. Mumbai airport officials added that the flying operations of other carriers were not affected at midnight, as air traffic at the city airport is less at that time. Sources said around 12.15 full emergency was declared at the main runway and Mumbai airport fire fighting system was deployed to avert any tragedy.
