Five Nigerians arrested for possessing cocaine worth Rs 12 lakh
In a special drive, five Nigerian nationals were arrested by the police after they were found in possession of 210 grammes of cocaine, worth around Rs 12.6 lakh, on Thursday.
The police acted on a tip-off on Thursday after an officer received specific information from his sources that two people would be coming near Wadi Bunder area to sell cocaine to different dealers. Following the tip-off that gave inputs about the facial features of the accused and the time they were expected to meet the dealers, officials laid a trap to arrest them.
A team from the Worli police and a separate group from the anti-narcotics unit went to the spot revealed by the informer and arrested five Nigerians, including one with 110 grammes of cocaine. The total price of the seized product is Rs 12,60,000.
The five accused were booked in cases under the NDPS Act 1985. They were identified as Aloka Anslem, 25, Chukwudi Peter, 28, Jems Jidani, 27, Anthony Annikevi, 25 and Nonso Daniel, 28.
The accused were produced in court on Friday and have been sent to police custody. Since December 29, 2015, the police has conducted three raids in the Wadi Bunder, Dongri area in which 11 foreign nationals have been arrested, with most of them being Nigerians.
In 2015, the police registered a total of 17,268 cases in connection with narcotics products and arrested at least 18,659 accused persons in the cases.
