Three firemen and a civilian sustained minor injuries in two separate fires in Mumbai Wednesday afternoon. The first fire gutted a chawl in the suburbs of Worli on Wednesday morning. The fire was reported at Madhusudhan chawl near Century Mill at about 11.30 am. As the residents immediately vacated the building, eight fire engines and five water tankers were rushed to the spot.
It took the fire brigade more than two hours to douse the fire. Officials said the primary cause of the fire was cylinder blast.
Meanwhile, another fire started at four shops near Punjab Dairy in Malad (east) at about 3.30 on Wednesday afternoon. One fireman sustained minor injuries. No civilian injuries or casualties were reported. The shops primarily housed material needed for shooting, including cameras, electric wiring, appliances, make-up kits and furniture.

The fire started in a heap of haystacks dumped in an open ground. No damage to human life or to the surrounding trees was reported. One fire engine was rushed to the spot and the fire was doused immediately.
