The Mumbai police is now seeking help from former officers who were in service when the city saw gang wars between infamous underworld figures such as Chhota Rajan and Dawood Ibrahim.

These ex-officers are going to help police officials who are framing documents and listing cases against Rajan. A senior officer from the crime branch, confirming the development, said, “He (Rajan) has a criminal history spanning 40 years.

Hence, former police officers who have handled cases that involved the gangster can provide us with good assistance,” Also, a special team has been formed within the crime branch unit that has prepared a list of several cases as per the red-corner notice and submitted it to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A top police officer from the crime branch confirming the same, said, “The Mumbai crime branch recently sent a list of as many as 14 cases against Rajan, including the murder of journalist J. Dey, to the CBI.”

“The ministry of external affairs will further hand over the papers to the Indonesian authorities and later the process of getting him will follow,” the officer said.

“The documents that were sent by the Mumbai Police to Delhi is the first set; other documents will soon follow,” the officer stated.

When asked about the reopening of cases against Rajan, the officer said, “The city crime branch, after getting Rajan’s custody will firstly question him about the most recent case against him, which is the J. Dey murder case, as the case is not as old as the others that are registered against him.”

When asked about the deportation of Rajan and his safety, the officer said, “As far as Rajan’s security in the city is concern, we are prepared.”

Rajan was arrested by the Indonesia police on Sunday after he arrived in Bali from Sydney. According to the CBI, he was arrested on the request of National Central Bureau (Interpol).
