‘Every BDD tenant should get equal area’

The Minister of State (MOS) for Housing Ravindra Waikar reviewed the most awaited cluster development project of century-old acres Bombay Development Direcotrate (BDD) chawls redevelopment and design strategies presentation on Monday. The three architects of which two are from Mumbai and one from Pune presented their draft plan which had three different area proposals for redevelopment of BDD chawls. The proposed flats were sized 2BHK with are of 407 sq ft for Naigaon, 548 sq ft for NM Joshi Marg followed by 566 sqft for Worli. All the flats are inclusive of carpet area.
Mr Waikar, after reviewing the proposal said, “Every single tenant should get equal area. Also, every tenant in the rehab segment should get a parking area for himself. We are yet to present the proposal to the chief secretary and chief minister who will give final go ahead for the proposals. By the end of this month we expect to get done with the selection of one architect.”
The proposal plan states that there will be total number of 121 buildings in Worli, 42 in Naigaon and 32 at NM Joshi Marg. The limiting of the typical tenement building height will be till 70 metres. The buildings will also follow the ‘Green building principles’ which will include usage of solar street lights with rechargeable battery, rain water harvesting, solid waster management system and sewage treatment plant, states the proposal plan. “We are expecting an additional housing stock of 16,000 units which will be sold by Mhada via lottery systems,” said SS Zende, vice president, Mhada.
