The School Education ministry has invited suggestions and opinions from experts in the state on making SSC exams easier by making subjects English and Maths optional or simpler.
School education minister Vinod Tawde said as students found it difficult to pass in these two subjects during the board exams conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), the state had invited experts to suggest ways to deal with the issue effectively.
According to officials from the MSBSHSE, Mr Tawde had said that English and Mathematics were a major stumbling block for a lot of students and countering it was the need of the hour.
The minister was speaking during a book launch in Pune on Monday.
“We invite experts from all over the state to come up with suggestions that could address the issue. After receiving the suggestions, the state will refer them to the officials and find out whether the subjects could be made more easy or optional,” said Mr Tawde.
Sources in the ministry said that before the board system was adopted in the 1970s, the English and Mathematics subjects were optional in the matriculation system, hence reverting to it would not be new but would ensure that the failure rate in the SSC board exams could be reduced.
