In an apparent attempt to show off his strength to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and the BJP leadership, revenue minister Eknath Khadse had allegedly gathered 15 corporators from the Jalgaon Municipal Corporation who had threatened to resign in the face of allegations of corruption against the minister. The attempt, however, failed as only one legislator showed up at Mr Khadse’s side on Tuesday.
While BJP leaders from Jalgaon met state BJP president Raosaheb Danve to discuss internal district party level appointments, in Mumbai supporters close to Mr Khadse refuted the speculation that he was trying to flex his political muscle and challenge the state leadership to remove him from the Cabinet.
BJP MLC Smita Wagh, who also hails from Jalgaon, dismissed reports of Mr Khadse launching any rebellion against the party leadership or the chief minister. “No party corporators will resign from their posts. But party workers are upset with what is happening nowadays with Mr Khadse,” said Ms Wagh.
Meanwhile, speaking to newspersons at state BJP office on repeatedly denying a party ticket to state party spokesperson Madhav Bhandari, Mr Danve tried to assuage the feeling of hurt amongst a section of the party. Mr Danve said that the party would compensate him (Bhandari) at the opportune moment and that no injustice would be done to him. However, the party leadership clarified that it was not duty bound to offer any explanation as why the ticket was denied to Mr Bhandari. Arguably the most notable face of the party in media, Mr Bhandari has so far been denied party tickets for Assembly and Legislative Council elections raising eyebrows even among the opponents of BJP.
