After NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal, another NCP MLA Ramesh Kadam has come under the radar of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which attached Kadam’s properties worth Rs 120 crore on Thursday.
The order to attach Mr Kadam’s properties was given by a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court recently. The order to attach properties included seizing a flat in Borivali area, an agricultural land in Aurangabad district, bank balances of around Rs 76 lakh and a property located at Peddar Road in south Mumbai.
The attachments have been done in connection with a probe into a multi-crore scam in the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation of the state government, of which Mr Kadam was the president between August 2012 and December 2014.
During his tenure, Mr Kadam, an MLA from Mohol constituency of Solapur, allegedly misappropriated large amounts to the tune of around Rs 300 crores, sources said.
The ED had registered a criminal complaint against Mr Kadam and others in September 2015 under the provisions of the PMLA. The case was registered on the basis of an earlier FIR of the state Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the case.
ED sources claimed it was a well-planned conspiracy, and misappropriated funds of the corporation were given to various institutions for their own benefits. The officials suspect the accused persons cheated the corporation by using forged documents, and are are now checking the documents in question.
