Two men wanted for a murder committed seven years ago have been arrested by the city police in Thane. The duo was arrested from Uttar Pradesh and brought to Thane on Monday.

Back in 2009, a headless body was found in a nullah of Shil Daighar with the head being found in some bushes in the area the very next day.

The body was identified as that of Pramod Sharma (40), a scrap dealer who used to work with a builder as well.

A case was registered at Shil Daighar police station, however, since that time, the two accused, Nijamuddin Fakir and Rafikullah Fakir, were absconding. They were arrested from Uttar Pradesh only four days ago.

SPI, Daighar police station, Nitin Thakre, said, “Once every two months, one team from the Thane police station goes to another state to get details of absconding accused in various cases. This time, our officials got some links to these accused and laid a trap to arrest them. With some help from the UP police officials, we were successfully able to arrest the duo.”

Nijamuddin and Rafikullah are allegedly involved in many other crimes in Uttar Pradesh. Mr Thakre said that during primary interrogation, it was revealed that the two accused had taken a loan from Mr Sharma which they failed to repay despite several follow-ups by Mr Sharma. Unable to repay the loan, they decided to kill Sharma.

Accordingly, they called him to a deserted area and slit his throat with a knife, then cutting off the deceased’s head. Mr Thakre added that they are trying to get details of other crimes committed by the duo.
