Duo arrested for stealing SUV
The police has arrested a duo for stealing a Mahindra Xylo a month ago on February 12 from a resident of Malad (west).
One of the accused was employed as a driver with the Malad resident.
Police officials said their modus operandi was that one of them would start working as a driver, win the trust of his employer, and then steal the car.
The accused have been identified as Ali Mohammad Masuri (30) and Zishan Ayyub Khan (20), both residents of Uttar Pradesh.
According to their plan, two months ago Masuri had started working as a driver for Rajesh Tawade in Malad. Khan was Masuri’s friend.
“He worked sincerely and soon built up a good rapport with Tawade. After some time, Tawade started leaving his car keys with Ali, who taking advantage of it, gave it to Zishan who then made a duplicate set,” said a police official.
Tawade owned a white Xylo (MH 47 C 7444) car.
The police said on February 12 Masuri was seen driving the car out of the society and it had got captured in the CCTV camera.
Soon after, the car was reported stolen. So, the police started investigations.
Later on Thursday, officials received a tip-off about these two, and arrested them under various sections of the IPC for theft. Officials are also checking similar car theft incidents and investigating if the duo was involved.
Officials also suspect that as both are from U.P, they may have sold the stolen cars there too and further probe is on.
