“Dreaded” Naxal commander Arjun, allegedly involved in several major operations by rebels against security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar including the 2014 attack on an ambulance in which five CRPF jawans and two civilians were killed, was on Tuesday morning gunned down in an encounter with troopers in the conflict zone. Bastar range inspector general of police S.R.P Kalluri said Arjun, the Jan-Militia commander in-charge of Chandometa area and member of Machhkot local operation squad (LOS) of Maoists, was killed in a face-off with security forces in Chandometa forest under Darbha block in Bastar district. The encounter took place in Chandometa forest bordering Tulsi Dongar village in Orissa when a joint search party comprising district reserve force (DRG), special task force (STF) and district force (DF) was ambushed by armed guerrillas, camping near a hill inside the forest. Earlier, as many as 20 Naxals, including four women, hailing from Badanpal village under Darbha block surrendered before the Bastar police.
