The Mumbai police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested a doctor for allegedly cheating another doctor of Rs 2.5 crore.

The Mumbai police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested a doctor for allegedly cheating another doctor of Rs 2.5 crore. Dr Kirtikumar Mangldas Shah was arrested on the complaint of Dr Deepak Patel. Dr Shah allegedly took the money after promising to sell his hospital to Dr Patel, but failed to follow through.

According to police officers, a real estate agent from Kandivali had shown the complainant and his wife Pratik Maternity Hospital, which is owned by the accused Dr Shah, a year ago. After Dr Shah and Dr Patel met to work out a deal for the hospital, the former asked for Rs 5.75 crore. After this, they decided not to take the help of the agent as he was asking for brokerage and then they settled on Rs 5.5 crore.

A police officer said, “Dr Patel made a payment of Rs 2.5 crore to Dr Shah via their relatives’ bank accounts from the US a few months after they had met. But later the latter allegedly claimed he hadn’t received any money from Dr Patel.”

Dr Patel then approached the police, who in turn investigated the case and on Saturday a complaint was registered against Dr Shah.
