DMRC role in metro corridor gets approval
The executive committee of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Thursday granted administrative approval for the appointment of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to implement the 18.5-km-long Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro-2 corridor.
It also approved the DMRC’s appointment as interim consultant for the 16.5-km-long Dahisar east-Andheri east Metro-7 corridor.
The executive committee of the MMRDA is headed by Swadhin Kshatriya, who is also Maharashtra chief secretary. The Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro corridor is the first phase of the Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro-2 corridor, which will cost Rs 5,566 crore and will be implemented by the DMRC. It has also prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the project.
The DMRC has also been appointed as the interim consultant for the Rs 4,737 crore Dahisar east to Andheri east Metro-7 corridor. This 18.6-km line will meet the already operational 11.4-km elevated Ghatkopar-Versova-Andheri Metro at DN Nagar station. The DMRC will oversee the project and will help prepare documentation related to construction.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for the proposed Dahisar east-Andheri east and Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro corridor earlier this month when he was on a one-day visit to Mumbai. U.P.S. Madan, metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, said, “The growing demand for speedy and comfortable public transport will always remain on top of our priority list to bring back the lost glory of India’s financial capital.
“Of course, we also understand the necessity to develop the metropolitan region and so you will notice that MMRDA undertakes projects for the city as also its metropolitan region. It’s all about total development.”
The executive committee, during the meeting on Thursday, also approved 25 electric/hybrid buses in a bid to ease commuting woes in the Bandra-Kurla Complex.
The buses will be provided at a cost of Rs 53 crore by the lowest bidder Tata Motors. Sanjay Sethi, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, said, “The demand for bus service was echoing for some time and has also been seconded by the BKC Plot Owners’ Association.”
