DMRC to prepare DPR for high-speed corridor
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is to be roped in for preparation of a detailed project report for constructing a high-speed metro corridor between the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) and the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) will jointly take up the project. The initial plan is that the MMRDA will look after the corridor in the Mumbai limits and the Cidco will look after the same in the Navi Mumbai limits.
Sanjay Sethi, additional metropolitan commissioner, said, “We have decided we will at least need a DPR to work further on the project. DMRC has been helping on almost all the metro corridors and for the high-speed corridor between airports also DMRC will prepare a DPR for us.”
The corridor is expected to be 40-km-long and the alignment of the project will be known once the DPR is prepared. “After the state government had shown keen interest on the project, a formal proposal was also sent to Cidco for helping MMRDA on the same,” an MMRDA official said. The government has promised that the first flight from the Navi Mumbai airport will take off in 2019. Cidco has also floated tenders for the pre-development works for constructing the airport.
According to the initial plan, the CSIA metro station is going to act as an interchange metro station for the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor and the Andheri east- Dahisar east Metro-7 corridor for having north-south-east connectivity.
