DMRC invites tenders for Metro-II

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for its debut project in the city has floated tenders inviting contractors for design and construction of viaduct and 16 elevated stations of 18.5 km long Dahis

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for its debut project in the city has floated tenders inviting contractors for design and construction of viaduct and 16 elevated stations of 18.5 km long Dahisar to DN Nagar Metro-2 corridor.

The executive committee of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on October 29, 2015 had appointed DMRC for the construction of Metro-2 corridor. It has also appointed DMRC as interim consultant for the Dahisar east-Andheri east Metro-7 corridor for which MMRDA, the implementation agency, had floated tenders on December 16, 2015.

“The contractors will have to complete the work in 30 months and have been floated in two packages and the first package consists part design and construction of viaduct and eight elevated stations namely Anand Nagar, Rushi Sankul, IC Colony, Eksar, Don Bosco, Shimpoli, Mahavir Nagar and Kamraj Nagar. Followed by the second package which consists part design and construction of viaduct and eight elevated stations namely Harkop, Malad Metro, Kasturi Park, Bangur Nagar, Goregaon Metro, Adarsha Nagar, Shastri Nagar and DN Nagar,” stated the tender document.

Viaduct is a long bridge-like structure, typically a series of arches, carrying a road or railway across a valley or other low ground.

“Now after the tenders have been floated DMRC will be conducting pre-bid meetings for the queries raised by the bidders in the city itself. We have vacated the old certain floors in the old buildings and have space to accommodate after the engineering department of MMRDA shifted to the new building,” said an MMRDA official.

The Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2 has been labelled as Metro-2A and the DN Nagar-Mankhurd Metro corridor is labelled as Metro-2B. Both these are part of (Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd) Metro-2 corridor which was earlier planned underground, but was later turned into an elevated corridor. The line was also divided into two parts, namely Dahisar-DN Nagar, DN Nagar-Mankhurd.

However, the detailed project report (DPR) had earlier suggested the MMRDA extend the 22.2 km DN Nagar to Mankhurd Metro-2B corridor up to Mandala —an extension of around 1.3 km — which the MMRDA has accepted.

According to MMRDA officials, they have plans to start work on the remaining portion by year end and also give the task of constructing the remaining corridor to the DMRC, but a decision is yet be taken on it. The deadline for the Metro-2B is 2019.
