DMRC appointed Metro consultant

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Tuesday appointed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as the interim consultant for the 23.6-km-long DN Nagar-Mandala Metro-2B corri

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Tuesday appointed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as the interim consultant for the 23.6-km-long DN Nagar-Mandala Metro-2B corridor and the 32-km-long Wadala-Ghatkopar- Kasarvadavli Metro-4 corridor.

Currently, the MMRDA has appointed DMRC for the construction of Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2A corridor, and prior to this it had appointed DMRC as interim consultant for the Dahisar (east)-Andheri (east) Metro-7 corridor.

The role of DMRC as interim consultant is to prepare tender documents, invite tenders and assist the MMRDA in evaluation of the tenders for the Metro-2B and Metro-4 corridor,” said the MMRDA in a statement.

“The decision clearly indicate the intent of the state government. It is about Mumbai, Mumbaikars and their commuting comfort. Considering the ever-growing population, the growing number of vehicles in the city,

overcrowded suburban trains and the loss of human life caused by congestion in local trains, Metro rail appears to be the perfect solution,” said U.P.S. Madan, metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA.

However, on Tuesday, MMRDA appointed Ayesa Ingenieria Y Arquitectura S.A. as the general consultant for the 16.5-km Andheri (east)-Dahisar (east) Metro-7 corridor and the 23.6-km DN Nagar to Mandala Metro-2B corridor.

The Metro-2B corridor is a part of the Metro 2 (Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd), which was earlier planned underground, but was later turned into an elevated corridor. The line was also divided into three parts, namely Dahisar-DN Nagar, DN Nagar-BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) and BKC-Mankhurd.

However, the DMRC in a detailed project report in November suggested extending the DN Nagar to Mankhurd Metro-2B corridor up to Mandala, an extension of 1.3 km approximately. The MMRDA, after carrying out a study of the DPR, had considered the recommendation.

Corporation begins work for Metro-2A The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started construction work on the Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2A corridor, abandoning the decade-old practice of not working during monsoons.

The contractor has started barricading the work on the alignment of the corridor that is on Link Road. “We have assigned the contract to J Kumar, which has started the work of barricading and continuing with the soil-testing of the ground. However, most civil works like that of digging for the viaducts will start from October,” said P.K. Sharma, project director, DMRC.

The alignment of the Metro-2A corridor is planned over Link Road and the construction viaducts for the Metro corridor will be on the median of the same, and this is expected to create a lot of problems, especially while the civil work is being executed. In the case of Metro-7, the planned alignment on the Western Express Highway is on the left-hand side, towards Ahmedabad.

Commuting could become a tedious affair from western suburbs such as Borivali, Dahisar, Mira Road. Also, places such as Malad, Goregaon and Andheri are commercial hubs and lakhs of people travel to and from there daily.

“We have been co-ordinating with the traffic department who would require managing the traffic on the busy road. The management of the traffic would not be an issue when it comes to north-bound Dahisar due to less settlements compared to that of Andheri and Jogeshwari where it could more troublesome to manage traffic during evening peak hours,” added Mr Sharma.
