Legendary 93-year-old actor Dilip Kumar, who is currently suffering from respiratory problems, is recovering well but doctors suggested that he will have to stay in the hospital for another four days until he recovers completely.

The 93-year-old actor was admitted to Lilavati Hospital with breathing problems on Saturday morning.

“His condition hasn’t deteriorated, in fact there is a slight improvement in his health. He is better since admission. He is recovering well. For the next four-five hours, he might be kept under observation in the hospital,” said Dr Jalil Parkar, who is treating him.

Mr Kumar’s wife, actress Saira Banu, had earlier said that the actor was hospitalised as he was suffering from high fever, chest infection and respiratory problems. “Oral drugs would not act as fast as the IV injections, the doctors advised. Hence, it became necessary to shift him to hospital. He is recovering well and is stable by the grace of God and the care of the doctors treating him,” Saira said.

Amitabh Bachchan on Sunday said that he had a word with the 93-year-old actor’s wife Saira Banu about his health.

“Saira ji informs me that he (Dilip Kumar) is doing fine, by the grace of the Almighty... Prayers for a speedy recovery...,” he posted on Twitter. Mr Kumar was admitted to the hospital on Saturday morning after he complained of respiratory problems. Ms Banu had said they had to take him to the hospital as he was suffering from high fever and chest infection since April 15 night.

Mr Kumar has acted in many super-hit films during his six-decade long career such as Madhumati, Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam,Ganga Jamuna, Ram Aur Shyam and Karma.

He was last seen on-screen in the film Qila in 1998. He was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
