Hinting that Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was behind the ouster of his former Cabinet colleague Eknath Khadse, the Shiv Sena, through an editorial in its mouthpiece Saamana, alleged that Mr Khadse was not aware that Mr Fadnavis was working behind the scenes.
“Khadse thought Devendra Fadnavis, a newbie, would barely understand (politics). But he did not realise when this newbie added gunpowder to the firecracker (incited Khadse’s ouster),” the Sena said in an editorial.
The editorial said that the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) was close on the heels of Mr Khadse’s alleged PA Gajanan Patil for the past six months, but Mr Khadse had no idea about this. “By this we understand the secrecy in the working style of home minister Devendra Fadnavis,” it said.
It asked why the BJP leadership had not defended Mr Khadse if he was not corrupt and if only attempts were being made to malign his character. It also asked why Mr Fadnavis had not come forward in support of Mr Khadse.
“Mr Khadse says the allegations cannot be proven, and that he would quit politics if proven guilty. Chhagan Bhujbal is also saying the same thing in jail, and so is Ashok Chavan, who is an accused in the Adarsh scam. Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra too says that he is innocent of corruption related to land deals,” it said.
